Harmony of Heritage

Harmony of Heritage: Exploring Music, Mindfulness & Financial Literacy Commence with a captivating musical performance by the talented Tony, Grammy, and Emmy-nominated N'Kenge, honoring Dorothy Dandridge's life and accomplishments. Our skilled musicians will present a selection of songs from the upcoming Broadway musical Dorothy Dandridge! The Musical. This performance provides a platform to discuss Dandridge's pioneering journey as the first African American actress to receive an Academy Award nomination. Students will discover her impact on the arts and how her bravery and creativity continue to inspire today. Next, we will move into a session on mental awareness led by Actor, Advocate, and Award-winning Producer Marissa Ghavami, emphasizing the significance of mental health and well-being. Through engaging activities and discussions, students will learn strategies for stress management, resilience building, and fostering a positive mindset. This segment aims to equip students with the tools necessary to handle their emotions and challenges, highlighting that mental health is as crucial as physical health. Program Highlights include: Musical Performance: Experience the inspiring music of N'Kenge and learn about the legacy of Dorothy Dandridge. Mental Health Awareness: Participate in interactive sessions with Marissa Ghavami focused on emotional well-being and resilience. Empowerment Through Education: Gain insights into the importance of arts, mental health, and financial literacy for personal development. This program is designed to empower students by integrating the arts with essential life skills. That's Love! The Dorothy Dandridge Musical

In the stirring final number, she sings, "For all the kings and queens and in-betweens crowding round my door... pity me not." Dorothy Jean Dandridge, a stunning, driven, and gifted African-American girl from Ohio, aspires to shine on stage and in films during the 1950s. When she eventually lands her "big break" in Hollywood, she faces the obstacles of being a prominent black woman! The show makes history by bringing together the tale of one of the most celebrated actresses of our era, accompanied by a cutting-edge, contemporary, genre-blending original score. This eagerly awaited and daring production, created by an award-winning Broadway and Hollywood team, debuted at Carnegie Hall in July 2022!
